The Border Management Authority (BMA) is opening new employment opportunities for 2026 as part of South Africa’s efforts to strengthen border security and immigration control. These jobs provide a chance for unemployed South Africans to join the public service and contribute to protecting the country’s borders. The recruitment drive is expected to create hundreds of positions across different departments and ports of entry nationwide.

Why the Border Management Authority Is Hiring
The Border Management Authority has faced serious staff shortages in recent years. Government reports show that the organisation currently operates with far fewer employees than required. The approved structure allows for over 11,000 personnel, but only about 2,566 positions have been filled, leaving thousands of vacancies.
Because of these shortages, border posts sometimes struggle with long queues and delays, especially during peak travel periods. To address this problem, the government has allocated R990 million to help the BMA fill about 738 critical positions and improve border management operations.

4. Drivers and Support Staff
The BMA also hires drivers and technical support staff to help transport personnel and equipment. Drivers must have a valid driver’s licence and experience operating heavy vehicles.
Some driver positions offer salaries ranging from about R167,883 to R204,379 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.
5. Internships and Graduate Programmes
Young South Africans who recently completed university may apply for internship programmes within the authority. These programmes provide practical training and work experience for graduates between the ages of 18 and 35.
Internships usually run for 24 months and provide a stipend while participants gain experience in areas such as finance, human resources, law, and environmental management.
